Medal "For the Defence of Stalingrad"

The Medal "For the Defence of Stalingrad" was a Soviet state award established by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on 22 December 1942, together with the medals for the defence of Leningrad, Odessa and Sevastopol. It was awarded to personnel of the Red Army, Navy and NKVD troops, as well as civilians who directly participated in the defence of Stalingrad. The medal formed part of the Soviet series of awards recognizing the defence of major cities during the Great Patriotic War.
