Order of Alexander Nevsky

The Order of Alexander Nevsky was a Soviet state military award established by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on 29 July 1942 during the Great Patriotic War. It was awarded to Red Army commanders who demonstrated personal bravery, courage and valour in battle while ensuring the successful actions of their units through skilful command. The award therefore emphasized the combination of a commander's personal courage with effective military leadership.
