Ago Aarand

Ago Aarand is a Canadian artist, medallist, and engraver who worked for many years at the Royal Canadian Mint. Professional numismatic sources document him as Chief Engraver of the RCM; publications from the mid-1980s also identify him as Director of Art and Master Engraver. His work included modelling and engraving dies, translating artists' drawings into coin relief, and creating original designs. Official Royal Canadian Mint records confirm Aarand's participation in numerous commemorative and collector issues, including the 1977 Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee dollar, the 1982 Constitution dollar, gold and silver commemorative coins of the late 1980s and 1990s, and later issues using his designs. His name is also associated with engraving Dora de Pédery-Hunt's third portrait of Elizabeth II, widely used on Canadian coinage.
