BÉLA HUNT was a Hungarian journalist and the husband of Canadian sculptor and medallist Dora de Pédery-Hunt. He met Dora in Germany after the Second World War, and they married in 1948. Canadian immigration rules of the period meant that Dora travelled to Canada alone and represented herself as unmarried in order to qualify under the immigration arrangement available to her. Several months later Béla arrived in Toronto with Dora's parents, after which the couple went through a second marriage ceremony in Canada. Archival sources indicate that Béla had difficulty adjusting to life in Canada; by 1958 the couple had separated, and the marriage ended in divorce in the early 1960s.
